Omaha Public Power District T&D Construction is looking for 15 Apprentice Line Technicians to join their team!

This position will be responsible in assisting the construction, maintenance, and operation of District transmission and distribution system equipment and facilities in manner that

ensures a high level of customer service, system reliability, and employee safety. Complete all requirements of the four-year Line Technician Apprenticeship Program, including all

home-study and on-the-job training requirements.

Specifically, the Apprentice Line Technician will be responsible for the following:

* Required to assist in constructing, maintaining, and operating all manner of overhead and underground transmission and distribution system equipment and facilities.

* Assist in performing installation and connection of poles, lines, transformers, switches, streetlights, cable, fuses, and etc. for overhead and]or underground service.

* Operate heavy construction equipment including digger derrick trucks, reach trucks, and other equipment.  Will also operate hydraulic and pneumatic tools and various hand tools.

* Complete all requirements of the four-year Line Technician Apprenticeship, including all home-study and on-the-job training requirements.

Candidates can either be entered into Step 1 or Step 5 of the Apprenticeship Program after a review of the candidate’s credentials and evaluation of the candidate’s at the Boot

Camp. The recommendation of which step an employee will enter the program will be made by the hiring supervisor and the Line Technician Joint Apprenticeship Training

Committee (JATC).

Qualifications

* Requires an Associate's Degree from an accredited utility line program or must have completed an accredited line apprenticeship program.

* Must possess the mental and physical potential to complete the four-year Apprenticeship Program in order to eventually progress to Line Technician.

* Must have a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

* Required to pass a pre-­employment physical capability test.

* Must be available for overtime as required.

* Must have good communications and customer service skills.

* Must live within a 35 mile radius of Center/Area Office.
